Spirit of the Coorong Adventure Cruise is the ultimate 6 hour cruise experience, which goes deep into the Coorong National Park and includes 2 guided walks.

TRANSPORT from Adelaide CBD (selected pick up points only) is available for this cruise.  Book online by selecting the “Adventure Cruise from Adelaide CBD” option OR by phoning our friendly team (08) 8555 2203.

Our Adventure Cruise departs from the Main Wharf in the old river port town of Goolwa.

Cruise to the Goolwa Barrage, past both of the Storm Boy inspired boats, through the lock and into the Coorong National Park to view the mouth of the River Murray. From the mouth the cruise heads into the pristine waters of the Coorong, past the spectacular white sand dunes and bird life, as your captain provides an informative and entertaining commentary on the passing scenes, bird life and history of the area.

Disembark for a guided walk through the sand dunes of the Younghusband Peninsula to the undisturbed white sandy beaches of the Great Southern Ocean. Along the walk your guide will talk about the cockle industry here, the sand dune flora and fauna and how the Aboriginal people lived in the area.

Visit and experience the location of where both Storm Boy inspired movies were based and filmed.

A delicious lunch of cold meats and salads is served with tea or coffee (special meals are available by prior request – vegetarian, gluten free etc) as the cruise continues deeper into the Coorong waterway. As you pass the Ewe Island and Tauwitchere Barrages, that separate the estuary Coorong from fresh water Lake Alexandrina, your captain will explain the man-made barrage and lock system that extends along the River Murray and tell you of the associated benefits and environmental impacts.

Deep into the Coorong, at Cattle Point, walk with your guide into the sand dunes again to learn more about the Aboriginal occupation of the area, see the middens left around their old campsites and discover fresh water as the Aboriginals did.

Afternoon tea is served as the cruise returns past the imposing sand dunes and back through the lock to the Goolwa Wharf where the cruise ends.

Spirit of the Coorong cruises are casual and relaxed so casual comfortable clothing is very suitable.

  • A jacket – if it is likely to be a cool day. Temperature in the Coorong is usually 5 degrees or so cooler than Adelaide and one guided walk takes you to the Southern Ocean beach where a cool sea breeze may be blowing.
  • Sunscreen and a hat – if it is likely to be a hot day and particularly if you wish to take in the scenery from the open upper deck.
  • Sun glasses to reduce glare.
  • Comfortable walking shoes – guided walks include beach/sand dunes so shoes/sandals you can remove easily are best.
  • Cameras, still or video.
  • Binoculars if you want a close look at birdlife or any wildlife.

Bookings are essential to avoid disappointment.

Cancellation fees apply (100%) if your booking is cancelled on the day of the cruise departure. Please give us as much notice of your cancellation as possible to avoid cancellation fees and to allow us to re-sell your seat.

5 star ratingWonderful cruise Although it was extremely windy, this was a great experience. Loved the unspoiled scenery. Saw seals basking on the Goolwa Barrage, numerous pelicans and black swans. Wonderful to see the crashing waves at the Murray Mouth, to walk along the desolate shores and see the numerous birds and to hear about the aboriginal sites. The crew looked after us extremely well. I highly recommend this cruise.

5 star ratingCoorong discovery We had 17 on a recent cruise on the Coorong. The 'captain' was extremely informative and certainly appeared to enjoy the telling us about all the different aspects of the Coorong. His assistant was also very helpful, explaining a lot about the vegetation and fauna on a walk to the beach. A very enjoyable lunch was part of the 4 hour experience.WELL worth going on this trip!
