SILVER MEDALLIST in 2016 SA Tourism Awards

November 10, 2016 0 comments

We are very proud to announce that we received a SILVER medal in the Tour & Transport Operators Category at the 2016 SA Tourism Awards.

Silver Medals are presented to entries of a high standard, where the judging panel awards the entrants a score of 80% or higher.

Thank You

A big thank you to everyone who has helped us to achieve our medal.

Without Spirit Australia Cruises – Spirit of the Coorong owners, captains, crew, and staff’s dedication, persistence and amount of effort we would not have our amazing cruise products.

Without the support of all those who have experienced our Cruises, we couldn’t have got this far.

The Awards

The South Australian Tourism Awards are presented by the South Australian Tourism Industry Council and proudly supported by the South Australian Tourism Commission. Now in its 32nd year the Awards celebrate and acknowledge tourism businesses that have demonstrated outstanding achievement and success throughout the year.

The Awards is an online submission and site visit based program and provides the opportunity to publicly acknowledge and showcase South Australia’s finest tourism operators.

How is it judged?

State judging is conducted by a panel of industry professionals who volunteer their time and are appointed by SATIC. The panel comprises a cross-section of tourism industry experts, some of whom are former award winners. Judges are selected for their knowledge and experience, and for their willingness to commit time to the Awards process.

The panel operates independently to SATIC and is convened each year specifically for the Tourism Awards.

Entrants are assessed against the Award criteria through a site visit and submission judging process. Site visits are conducted by a site judge with the aim of testing the experience and providing a detailed report for the submission judges to use to validate claims made in the submission.

Each submission is assessed by a team of three judges, who firstly judge independently, and then discuss their findings as a group.

Category – Tour & Transport Operators

This category recognises a significant contribution to tourism through the combined provision of touring and transport services. It is open to businesses with fewer than 15 annual fulltime equivalent employees.

How to Enter

We had to answer 5 Main Questions relating to:
Tourism Excellence
Business Planning
Customer Service
Each Main Question contained 4 or 5 sub questions.

We also had a Site Visit by a judge.

The purpose of the site visit is to assess the business being nominated and for verification of claims that may be made within the submission. Operations are under no obligation to offer a free experience of their product. The site visit will be prearranged at a mutually convenient time and the judges have a proforma from which they work.

Each Main Question was worth a total of 20 points.
Total score: 100 points.
Site Inspection was worth a further 20 points.

To receive a SILVER MEDAL means we scored at least 96 points, or more, out of a potential 120 points.

Well Done and a special THANKS to Petrea Bartlett (our office manager) who wrote the submission.

TripAdvisor Reviews

5 star ratingA pleasant surprise This is the first time I have been on a sightseeing tour of the Coorong although I have lived in this lovely state all my life. I was really impressed with the professionalism of Matt and Nick but also their easy going friendliness. As mentioned in another review, during busy times of the year, they put on extra tours which was how we manged to get the last two seats for the Discovery Cruise. Although it was near the end of the season, we still saw some migratory birds and the seals on the barrage were a delight! Matt's knowledge of the birdlife and Nick's knowledge of the Coorong landscape was impressive. My daughter and I especially enjoyed learning how to 'fish' for the cockles on the beach. I would highly recommend this 4 hour tour for any local or international visitor.

5 star ratingBrilliant Very informative and friendly on-board staff. 6 hour cruise you wouldn't think was that long , always busy and plenty to see. 1st walk to the ocean was easy and enjoyable. 2nd walk in HOT weather (36 C) was too much through the hot sand dunes and then to stand for a 10 minute talk in the midday sun, might have been better on board before or after but very interesting. Plenty of food and drinks included, definately a must see area with perfect hosts.

5 star ratingCouldn't got a better day!!! Right from the start, everyone was helpful and friendly. Bain and Dave were fantastic guides, very knowledgable and helpful. The 2 walks were interesting and informative, lunch was great, as was afternoon tea. Would highly recommend this trip - we are local people and found it a great way to understand the lower lake and Murray Mouth set ups.
