5 star ratingCockles poached in cream and white wine on pristine beach just one highlight! We joined the full 6 hour Coorong Tour between Xmas and New Year 2013. What a delight the whole day was! Our skipper and "Talking Coorong Encyclopedia" Mat must be the best tour guide I have ever heard and his assistant Dave did a great job of keeping us comfortable fed and watered. Mat presented a mind-boggling amount of information about the area in a relaxed and subtly humorous way. No full on comedy routine disguising a lack of detailed knowledge..just fascinating facts and anecdotes. The variety and diversity of bird-life on show was extraordinary as was Mat's ability to spot and identify even the rarer species. He was clearly also a very polished Boat Captain confident enough to tease us about the unlikely possibility of running aground on one of the ever shifting sandbars. There were too many highlights of the tour to list here but for me the most exciting was our walk through pristine sand dunes to the obvious remains of aboriginal camp sites with their huge piles of discarded cockle shells. As a local from Adelaide I was overwhelmed by the beauty of this previously unvisited wilderness area an hour from my home.

5 star ratingBrilliant!! Education and Cruise at the same time This was a Brilliant day out to say the least. If my school education was as good as this. More stuff would have been retained in my brain.

Bain and Lachie were the perfect hosts. A fantastic mixture of captain, cook, teacher, boat hands and as it turned out on my sunday. For some unfortunate boat stuck on a sand bar on our return. Rescue team.

The Coorong is a shining jewel in my own backyard and this cruise polished it up beautifully. If your thinking about this. Stop thinking. Do it

5 star ratingArmchair exploration of the Coorong I have wanted to explore the Coorong for a long time but never considered that it could be done with such comfort. The Spirit of the Coorong is a very comfortable boat with inside/ outside options including top deck for great views. The skipper/chef is very knowledgeable as is the guide for the two ( optional) walks. I certainly learnt a wealth of information

I learnt a lot about the history of the Coorong, both natural and historical with plenty of photo opportunities including the bird life and the fur seals. As the Murray River is in flood we got to see the flood gates on the various barrages working as a bonus. The freshly cooked cockles cooked by the skipper while we were on a shore walk were a tasty and unusual entree to our lunch of cold meat selection with fresh salads with cheese and crackers. all up a great way to spend six hours and thank you to Blaine and Dave for a sharing so much information and looking after your passengers so thoughtfully. Tip - Make sure you apply plenty of insect repellent before the first walk! no insects on second walk.
