5 star ratingGreat Exprience Great cruise right to the mounth of the Murray with a chance to walk on the river flats and right up to the Southern Ocean. Went for 2 hours with informative commentary.

5 star rating12 out of 10 - excellent cruise I did the 6-hour cruise, and thoroughly recommend it. The crew were fantastic - very thorough, excellent local knowledge, and very friendly. The setting is stunning. The Coorong is well worth seeing and there is something extraordinary about standing on a beach, looking at an ocean where the next stop is the Antarctic.

There are two guided walks, one easy one with timber boardwalks and only a little sand walking. This one takes you across the peninsula to the southern beach. The second walk is more difficult, up to the top of a dune, all sand walking, no boardwalks. Fellow travellers said the view from the top was amazing and well worth it. You can choose not to do the walks, and stay with the boat.

The number and variety of birds in The Coorong is astounding, and the origin of some of these travellers (Siberia, for example) makes you realise how important this RAMSAR wetland is, in the network established and protected around the world.

Comfortable seating, good facilities, tasty lunch and afternoon tea, and the Captain does a good job with cooking cockles!

5 star ratingExcellent! Highly recommended. Go now while the birds are there in their thousands. The trip we did on the Spirit of the Coorong runs for six hours on a Sunday. It was fabulous. I booked months in advance and it was full (it's a small boat).

Although cold and windy, we sat upstairs the whole time in order to maximise our view and our bird watching experience. This involved a woolly hat, scarf, gloves and three layers under a thick waterproof jacket which was required when the occasional full face of water was received! It was worth it as we would have seen thousands of birds .. black swans, pelicans, various types of cormorants, waders and birds of prey. Most people sat downstairs where it was warmer and a lot less windy and I reckon they missed out because they didn't have the gear.

The captain was friendly and knowledgeable about the area and the bird life. There were two stops, both fascinating in terms or Indigenous history, landscape and flora and fauna. The views are stunning.

It isn't always like this. A few years ago there were hardly any birds. Now they are there in the thousands and it's a wonderful experience to behold.

Lunch and morning tea is provided .. simple but adequate fare. Lunch is provided in little lunch boxes. My lettuce flew away given that I chose to be outdoors in a gale but it was worth it to see the birds!
