How strenuous are the guided walks?

They are mostly quite easy. Both walks involve a sand dune climb but these are either gently sloping or very short.  Southern Ocean Beach return walk is about 1.5 kms easy walking.  Cattle Point walk is slightly shorter but has two short but fairly steep soft sand dune climbs.

Is there a toilet on board?

Yes.

Do we need to book?

Yes bookings are essential to avoid disappointment.

The Adventure & Discovery Cruises include meals and we need to know numbers for catering purposes.

What do I need to bring?

A hat, jacket, sunscreen, sun glasses, comfortable walking shoes, camera, binoculars (if you want to).

Is there parking available?

Free parking is available at the Main Wharf area.

There are no time limits or restrictions at the Main Wharf area.

Will I get sea sickness?

It is rarely a problem as cruising is in narrow sheltered waters.

What do I need to wear?

Spirit of the Coorong cruises are casual and relaxed so casual comfortable clothing is very suitable.

A jacket – if it is likely to be a cool day. Temperature in the Coorong is usually 5 degrees or so cooler than Adelaide and one guided walk takes you to the Southern Ocean beach where a cool sea breeze may be blowing.
Sunscreen and a hat – if it is likely to be a hot day and particularly if you wish to take in the scenery from the open upper deck.
Sun glasses to reduce glare.
Comfortable walking shoes – guided walks include beach/sand dunes so shoes/sandals you can remove easily are best.

How many people will be on the cruise?

Spirit of the Coorong can carry a maximum of 50 passengers.

Spirit II can carry a maximum of 32 passengers.

Numbers will vary from day to day, depending on weather/time of the year/holidays/other events in the area etc.

You can always phone us a few days prior to your cruise to find out how many people are booked on.

Are there drinks available on board?

There is drinking water available on board.

There are also cans of soft drink and bottled water available for purchase.

You may bring your own alcoholic beverage to have on board with your lunch.  However, if you do we ask that you remain sensible and safe, and please bring your own glass/cup/stubby cooler for your drink, as we only have coffee mugs on board.

What do I wear on my feet?

This is entirely up to you.

We recommend comfortable walking shoes.

There is 1 guided walk on the Discovery Cruise and 2 guided walks on the Adventure Cruise.

If you are comfortable in thongs or sandals you are welcome to wear those.  However, some people find that they are more comfortable in sand shoes/sneakers and then we have had passengers do it in knee high boots.

It is about what you are comfortable in.

No, the cruise is entirely in narrow sheltered waters and is very rarely rough.  By all means bring your seasick tablets but we will bet you won’t need them!

What about the weather?

Our boats are designed to suit the waterways which we travel and are fully enclosed with picture windows.

Our staff are upfront and honest about the weather and you are welcome to contact us a day or two ahead to get an honest indication of the forecasted weather. Of course, in Goolwa the weather can at times be a little surprising and so a forecast is exactly that, a forecast!

If required, we also provide weatherproof ponchos for your convenience.

Can I order a special lunch?

We cater for special dietary needs such as vegetarian, gluten free etc by prior request, but we are not able to cater for individual likes/dislikes.

Children

Can I bring a pusher/stroller on board for a child?

Unfortunately no.  There is not sufficient room on board for pushers or strollers without impeding access along the aisle, which is inconvenient for other passengers and becomes a safety issue.

What arrangements apply for children?

Age range for children’s fares is 5 to 15 years inclusive.

Children under 5 years of age travel free of charge but a meal is NOT provided for them.

Full time students over 15 years of age with student ID travel at seniors rates.

Can I get a meal for my child under 5?

Yes you can.  However, you will need to purchase a child ticket in order to receive a meal for your child.

Do I still need to book for my child under 5?

Yes.  Whilst children under the age of 5 are Free of Charge (F.O.C) we must know exactly how many passengers are on board at all times.  So please include under 5/FOC in your numbers when booking.

Do the cruises have an age limit?

No there is not an age limit for any of our cruises.

Children must be supervised by adults.

Children under 5 are free of charge, unless you require a meal for the child under 5.

Other General Questions

Can I buy alcohol on board?

No, alcohol is not available on board.  You may bring your own bottle of wine/beer for consumption with lunch but you will need to bring your own glasses and cooler.
Soft drinks are available for purchase on board.

Can I go for a swim?

Yes, if time permits and in lieu of taking a guided walk. Whilst swimming conditions in the Coorong are generally safe you must understand that taking a swim is entirely at your own risk.  We do not recommend a swim in the ocean.

Is the cruise suitable for those with physical disability?

Maybe, depending on extent of disability.  As long as the person is able to walk independently, negotiate 5 steps into the cabin and move around using handrails on seats each side of a narrow aisle for support then yes.  It is not accessible for wheelchairs or walkers.

Is drinking water available on board.

Yes, plus bottled water and soft drink available for purchase.

Is the cruise OK while pregnant?

Yes.

As the waters we cruise in are very sheltered and not in the open sea our cruises are OK while pregnant.

However, if you are unsure about what is safe it is best to seek advice from your doctor.

Special dietary requirements are available for pregnant women if notified prior to the cruise.

Can I smoke while on the cruise?

No, our boats are a smoke free zone and you are not permitted to smoke on board any of our boats.

Will the cruise be cancelled?

The cruise can be cancelled due to gale force winds being predicted or insufficient passenger numbers.

We always ask for a contact number at the time of booking so that we can let you know.

Do you have wheelchair access?

Unfortunately we do not.

Both our boats have steps down to the inside of the cabins and only a narrow aisle.
