5 star ratingFantastic Day Out Just be careful when enquiring with this cruise at the visitors centre. I checked the website out and they had extra cruises during Christmas. When I asked at the Visitors centre they said there was no scheduled cruise for the next day. So just go down to the water and the Spirit of the Coorong has their own office there and they are friendly enough to help you out.

The scenery was lovely. The commentary impressive and the lunch was fantastic! I enjoyed the Aboriginal history and seeing the Lock in action was great. So much to see whilst on this cruise. Highly recommended for all ages.

5 star ratingWater and sand to spare. My wife and I and two friends from the UK booked on The Spirit of the Coorong cruise for Sunday January 28th. The temperature was 40 Degrees plus, which did make conditions a little difficult, but not unbearably so. The trip through the Goolwa Barrage and then south to the Murray mouth was interesting, with a coolish breeze blowing through the boat. Because of the heat, the guide decided to beach the boat next to the river mouth so we could get ashore and up close and personal to the mouth of Australia's largest river, rather than walk over and through the sand dunes a bit further south. The mouth was a lot smaller than I expected for a river of this size. After an hour or so, we continued south and were served with a delicious cold meat and salad lunch. There was also an entree served of cockles ( pipis ) served in a garlic and white wine sauce for the many seafood lovers on board. I'm not one of them but I was assured by the passengers who did partake that they were exceptional. I recall some who had three serves, so they must have enjoyed them. Special dietary requirements advised at the time of booking were met with no difficulty. There were ample supplies of water and soft drinks at $ 2.00 per can/bottle to accompany the food, and at any other time during the cruise. We reached the southernmost point of the trip at a series of sandhills called Cattle Point, which is about 30 Km. from the Main Wharf at Goolwa from where we started. The options were to go ashore, climb the sandhill (s) and see the old aboriginal campsites, the flora and fauna and the way to find freshwater in the sandhills with sea water a few hundred yards away on either side, or stay on board in the comparative cool. Because of the extreme heat, there were only a few brave souls who attempted this walk. Those who did enjoyed the scenery and history, but struggled with the heat. The guides told us that had there not been a slight breeze, they would not have done the walk because of the weather. We headed back towards Goolwa, with coffee, tea and a magnificent fruit cake for afternoon tea on the way.We had left at 10.am and arrived back at the wharf just after 4.00pm. so we had a very pleasant and enjoyable 6 hours, with two very experienced and interesting guides, a comfortable boat and sightings of thousands of birds ranging from the smallest of the small up to and including the mighty Pelican, with its 2 meter plus wingspan. Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable and informative day but we would have appreciated 10 degrees or so less ambient temperature. We will probably do this trip again in the cooler months.

5 star ratingOne of the best days out We did not plan our cur half day cruise but what a great surprise when we decided to do the cruise our crew Michael and Dave could not do enough for us, the knowledge they shared of the wildlife and environs was wonderful, there was plenty of birdlife and also lots of seals to be seen, the Coorong is full of life and is pristine. The lunch provided was of a high quality and served in individual trays, I believe they do take special requests in regards to specific needs, with ample quantity to suit most people.
