Downstream
Cruise – Border Cliffs to Blanchetown
5 DAYS / 4 NIGHTS
DAY 1
Depart Blanchetown Caravan Park at 10.00am
by coach to the historic Customs House at the South Australian / Victorian
Border for a BBQ lunch. Board the Spirit of the Murray for your 5 day
/ 4 night, 3 States Murray River Run Cruise. Cruise upstream view S.A./
Vic and S.A./ NSW Borders. Cruise past the ruins of Cal Lal Police Station,
Scotties Wood Pile, stopping at "Kulcurna"to listen to bush
poet Paul Hanson and enjoy afternoon tea. Return by boat back to Border
Cliffs coach transfer to Renmark for dinner, bed and breafast.
DAY 2
Depart Renmark by coach back to border cliffs,
Board the Spirit of the Murray cruising through Lock 6 and stopping
at Chowilla Station for lunch. After lunch board a coach for a tour
of the Chowilla flood plain and a spectacular part of the Bookmark Biosphere
Reserve, learn about both the European and Aboriginal history, return
back to Chowilla Station for afternoon tea. Reboard the boat, take in
the beauty of the ever changing river, before stopping at Wooknal Bend
for a walk at the site of a WWII Internment Camp. Cruise further downstream,
view spectacular Redgum Forest, before stopping at Renmark for dinner,
bed & Breakfast.
DAY 3
Depart Renmark pass under the Paringa Bridge,
through Lock 5, experience the breath taking views as we cruise further
downstream passing the small town of Lyrup, and stopping at Berri for
lunch. Time will be allowed to explore the town of Berri. Cruise down
stream through Lock 4 and the Kamakazi Flats before stopping at Loxton
Hotel for Dinner / Bed and Breakfast.
DAY 4
Depart Loxton cruise past the towns of Cobdogla,
Moorook and Kingston on the Murray before stopping for lunch at the
historic Overland Corner Hotel. This hotel was commissioned in the 1850's
as a refreshment point for weary travellers, it now is both hotel and
museum and boast at having its own resident ghost. After lunch board
your coach to Banrock Station for a video / talk and afternoon tea.
Banrock Station is an award winning wine and ecotourism destination
with panoramic views of the vineyards and wetlands time will also be
allowed for the short walk or for wine tasting. Coach transfer back
to the boat enjoy the spectacular scenery as we cruise further downstream
stopping at Waikerie for Dinner / Bed and Breakfast at the Waikerie
Hotel.
DAY 5
Depart Waikerie, cruise through Lock
2, view Red Gum Forest and pass by the town of Cadell before stopping
for lunch at the historic Riverport of Morgan. Hear the history of the
area from local historians before taking a walk along the restored wharf
precinct and the historic railway station. Reboard the Spirit of the
Murray for your final leg of the cruise, view Pelican Point and spectacular
scenery before passing through Lock 1, the first lock on the Murray
River built in 1921 arriving at Blanchetown.
